Professor Fox is an assistant professor in the School of Accountancy at the BYU Marriott School of Business. He earned his bachelors degree at Utah Tech University, masters degree at BYU, and his doctorate at the University of Oregon, all in accounting, where he was awarded the Doctoral Fellowship for Outstanding Doctoral Student. Prior to joining BYU Marriott in 2022, he was on faculty at the Mays School of Business at Texas A&M University.

His research focuses primarily on the real consequences of tax policy and corporate investment through real activity and other tax planning strategies. He also focuses on corporate disclosure policies, with a particular interest in disclosure choices as a tool to learn from stock prices. His research has been published in leading journals, including the Accounting Review, Review of Accounting Studies, and Contemporary Accounting Research. His Dissertation was awarded the Competitive Manuscript Award in 2025 by the American Accounting Association.
